Crystallization of Glasses Containing K2O, PbO, BaO, Al2O3, B2O3, and TiO2

The objective of this work was to obtain glass-ceramics from stable glasses, with a composition barium, lead, and potassium titanate phases, for use as semiconductors. For purpose, the glass-ceramic technique used control crystal growth fine-grained microstructure. Various glasses containing K2O, PbO, BaO, Al2O3, B2O3, TiO2 were prepared using melt-quenching method. X-ray diffraction (XRD) scanning electron microscopy (SEM) showed single amorphous phase all samples. Infrared spectra confirmed presence B-O bonds stretching vibrations (B3O6)3− boroxol rings BO3 triangles, well Ti-O (TiO6/2) (AlO6/2) octahedral units. Thermal analyses one or more crystallization peaks in range 700 744 °C. On base, they heat-treated promote growth. XRD SEM detected Ba4Ti12O27, Ti7O13, BaTiO3 homogeneously distributed throughout material fine crystallite size. In addition, crystallized glasses’ (glass-ceramics) properties determined; density values 2.8–3.55 g/cm3; chemical resistance acidic basic media low; band-gap 2.88 3.05 eV. These results suggest that may have application photocatalysis.
